After a certain period of operation, titanium rod filter elements become clogged, which leads to an increase in pressure drop and a decrease in media flow. In this case, regeneration by backwashing or backflushing is required. The frequency of regeneration is determined by the calculated values of pressure and flow. During long-term operation, the filter gradually becomes clogged, which is manifested by a decrease in flow rate and an increase in pressure at the filtration inlet. For example, if the pressure increases from less than 0.22 MPa to more than 0.3 MPa, it is necessary to clean the filter. The following main cleaning methods exist:
New titanium rod filters are usually cleaned by backwashing with clean water and backwashing with gas: flowing clean water in the reverse direction at a pressure slightly above operating pressure (eg 0.3 MPa). The duration of backwashing is 1–3 minutes. If, after repeated backwashes, filtration efficiency is not restored, the product is soaked at room temperature in a solution of hydrochloric acid with a concentration of less than 5%, sulfuric acid less than 8% or sodium hydroxide less than 10%, then thoroughly washed with clean water.
Acid and alkaline cleaning methods can be used either separately or alternately. With an ultrasonic cleaning unit, cleaning efficiency increases significantly.
Note: Regular regeneration of the filter without dismantling by backwashing and blowing allows you to reduce the frequency of chemical cleaning and increase the service life of the titanium filter element.
